What It Does

Key Features

The Tek RMD keeps you upright with your hands free, so you can comfortably reach and take on everyday tasks like cooking, washing dishes, and ironing – even in spaces that aren't typically set up for people living with physical disabilities.

Small Footprint

Navigate tight spots with ease – the Tek RMD has a smaller footprint than a traditional wheelchair and moves with you naturally.

Take Control

Call the Tek RMD to you with the handheld remote, then control your speed and direction with the intuitive joystick.

Easy Boarding

Board and secure yourself safely from a seated position – whether you're in a wheelchair, on a plinth, or using other accessible furniture – no assistance needed.

Sit or Stand on Command

Move effortlessly between sitting and standing at the touch of a button, with motor-assisted lift doing the work for you.

Designed for You

Comfortable pads at your hips, knees, and shins adjust to fit your body just right.

For Adventurers

Take on uneven streets, paths, slopes, and curbs with the optional outdoor kit, which adds extra stability to your Tek RMD.

Patient Stories

What People Are Saying

Bill — Tek RMD User

"You have the ability to engage with someone of your same age group or peers and be eye to eye. You just can't replace the element of being on a personal level with somebody.

The amount of mental stability it creates for you is greater than having a simple conversation from a wheelchair to a standing person."

Jason — Tek RMD User

"The Tek RMD is proving very useful around the house and I am spending longer periods of time in it.

It is definitely money well spent and means we will not have to adapt our kitchen which has saved a lot of money."

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone who has the inability or difficulty standing or walking. This would include those with:

  • Paralysis
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Stroke

These are the general contraindications that may affect a person's ability to use the Tek RMD. If in doubt about anything please ask:

  • A leg length discrepancy of more than 2 inches.
  • Lack of upper body/trunk control ability. The user should be able to stabilise him/herself in a standing position without using the arms to hold onto the Tek RMD.
  • Restricted hand function that inhibits the operation of the TEK RMD's controls. With the new Electric Lifter version this restriction need not be a barrier to use the product.
  • Flexion contractures at the hips, knees or ankles that will prevent upright standing posture.
  • Restricted ability to generate force and restricted range of motion in shoulders and upper extremities may be challenging, but should be assessed.
  • Severe osteoporosis in the lower limbs or spine or a history of fractures. Medical clearance is required before using the Tek RMD.
  • Unstable fractures of the lower limbs or spine.
  • Open wounds or acute pressure ulcers at the back, hips or lower extremities.
  • Uncontrolled autonomic dysreflexia, hypotension or dizziness in upright standing.
  • History of epilepsy will require medical clearance.
  • Cognitive disabilities that impair safe use of the device.
  • Severe visual impairment preventing safe use of the device.
  • Pregnancy.
  • The Tek RMD is 39.5cm wide × 75cm long (15.6" × 29.5"), allowing it to fit through narrow spaces that are often inaccessible to wheelchairs.
  • The outdoor kit extends this to 60cm wide × 103cm long (23.5" × 40.3").
  • The height is adjusted for the individual user.
  • The device weighs 118kg (260lbs) with no passenger.
  • Minimum height: 140cm / 4'7"
  • Minimum weight: 40kg / 88lbs
  • Maximum height: 190cm / 6'3"
  • Maximum weight: 120kg / 265lbs

You can transfer from your wheelchair, plinth or other accessible furniture.

If transferring from a wheelchair, generally you will need to have at least tilt-up foot rests and removable sides. If you have fixed foot rests you may not get the Tek RMD close enough to make transfer easy.

The optional Transfer Seat was designed as a flip-up/down seat to allow easier transfer on and off the Tek RMD from a wheelchair. This would be shown (and tried) during your demo.

  • The maximum speed is 4.5 km/hr.

Yes — but please consider using the Outdoor Kit. The original Tek RMD was designed primarily for indoor use, although many users use it on paving in the garden. The Outdoor Kit provides a longer wheel base for increased stability and larger wheels to allow you to traverse curbs, obstacles and slopes more safely. The changeover can potentially be carried out by a wheelchair user.

  • The product has IPX4 level water ingress protection.
  • Maximum safe slope: Standard indoor wheels – 5° | Outdoor wheels – 6°
  • Obstacle climbing: Standard indoor wheels – 25mm (0.98") | Outdoor wheels – 40mm (1.57")
  • Battery usage varies depending on user weight and driving surface. For home use, the device typically lasts 1 to 2 days on a single charge.
  • The driving distance range is 7.7km / 4.7 miles.
  • The device comes with a battery charger, connected to the device and plugged into a normal domestic plug socket (DC 24V, 22Ah with a 24V charger).
  • The device is fully charged in 4.5 hours and can be charged overnight.
  • We recommend charging regularly when not in use for long periods to preserve battery life.

The device can be transported most easily in a van. Using its remote control, the Tek RMD can be easily guided up and down ramps for loading and unloading. It is too heavy to manually lift into a vehicle.

We don't offer any financing options or payment plans at the moment. We understand this would make the system accessible to more individuals, so we are looking at the possibilities and hope to be able to offer something soon.

Matia Robotics warrants the Tek RMD for a period of one (1) year from the purchase date. If the device is proven defective within the warranty period, Matia Robotics will repair or replace the device.

This warranty does not cover:

  • Defective or removed serial numbers.
  • Devices subject to improper use, maintenance, or modifications.
