COVID-19 Safety Procedures

Because SelfCare (NSM Canada) provides products and services for medical needs, including hospital discharges, we need to continue to be able to provide these services while keeping the health and safety of our clients and our staff as the top priority.

Our parent company, NSM (National Seating & Mobility) has activated their Emergency Preparedness Task Force, who are meeting frequently to review the latest updates and take the necessary steps to determine the best ways to continue to support you and your clients.

Here are the main Task Force guidelines that we've implemented (many of which we've already been doing as part of our regular practices):

In-Store Procedures

  • We're open! But our doors will be locked. You'll see signage posted at all entrances asking you to call us when you arrive. We'll be pre-screening anyone before they enter the store.
  • We'll be limiting the number of customers in our stores to 2 at a time, provided proper social distancing can be maintained.

In-Home Visits & Deliveries

  • Phone screening before client appointments to minimize the risk of exposure – check that all members of the household are feeling well and don't have any symptoms and that no one has recently returned from international travel.
  • If the client responds "yes" to any of the above questions, we will need to evaluate the situation on a case by case basis.
  • We will be asking clients if they prefer that we deliver equipment to their door and will be doing this when possible.

Facility Visits & Deliveries

  • Facility visits without an urgent need will be postponed.
  • For residents with an urgent need - we will be arranging to deliver the equipment to the door of the facility.
  • We will set up equipment to the specifications given and can provide a ROHO for excellent preventative measures, but we will not be having a technician check the fitting until it's safe to do so.
  • In an extreme situation, the facility must provide full protective equipment (cap, gowns, masks, etc. Similar to what would be provided in an MRSA environment).

Hygiene

  • Stop handshaking – use other non-contact methods of greeting.
  • Clean hands frequently and properly.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and discard the tissue. If you have no tissue, sneeze or cough into your bent elbow.
  • Disinfect surfaces like doorknobs, tables, desks, and handrails regularly.

Infection Control Policies

  • Clean and properly disinfect all stores, vehicles and equipment. Increased disinfecting procedures are being implemented at this time.
  • Use a new set of gloves for each delivery/client interaction, disposing of them hygienically immediately after use.
  • Disinfect client care areas after each client interaction, such as waiting area, evaluation rooms and service areas.
  • Display “stop the spread of germs” poster on entry points to all locations.

Additional Precautions

  • Employees who can work remotely are encouraged to do so.
  • Employees that contact COVID-19 must remain off work until cleared by a health care professional.
  • Employees that have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact or have household members with COVID-19 or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 must not report for work and must get tested. These employees will remain off work until a negative test result has been obtained.
